The simulation is useful only when the second round tests a changed work rule and the debrief names a real transfer.

Shared Outcome Simulation
Make local optimisation visible in a short cross-functional flow.
60–90 min12–24
Purpose
Observe how local targets, information and queues affect one end-to-end result.
Output: Observed system pattern and one shared-outcome experiment
Materials
- Role cards
- Work-item cards
- Local scorecards
- Shared outcome board
Preparation
- Model a fictional flow that resembles the work without exposing confidential cases.
- Give each role a locally rational target and partial information.
Facilitation steps
1
Round one
20 minRun the flow using local targets and existing handoff rules.
2
Observe
10 minRecord queues, rework, escalation and the end-to-end outcome.
3
Redesign
15 minTeams may change one measure and two interface rules.
4
Round two
20 minRepeat the same demand pattern with the redesigned system.
5
Transfer
15 minSelect one real shared measure or interface experiment.
Observe
- Where is locally correct action globally harmful?
- What information arrives too late?
- Who can stop the flow?
Debrief
- Which rule produced the largest system effect?
- What did we initially explain as a people problem?
- What will we test in real work?
Transfer to work
Run the chosen measure or interface change on a bounded real workflow for 30 days.
Failure modes
- Participants optimise the game score rather than inspect the mechanism.
- The debrief never reaches real work.
Accessibility
- Do not require speed, standing or fine motor activity.
- Provide clear role instructions and a non-playing observer role.
